Learning about Wetlands: Wetland Educational Resources for All Ages

Last week, Water Program Associate Director Alicia Vasto joined the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators for a tour of Iowa State University research projects in Ames, IA. Stops along the tour included the “Comparison of Biofuel Cropping Systems (COBS) long-term research plots, a restored oxbow wetland and bioreactor site, and a saturated buffer study. ISU researchers and Iowa Nutrient Research Center (INRC) staff led the tour, describing the research, goals, and outcomes. Assistant Director of INRC, Kay Stefanik, shares more information on wetland education in this week’s featured guest piece.

Whether you are looking to improve your understanding of wetlands, wanting to add wetland content to your class lesson plans, considering adding a wetland to your farm, or looking for an educational display to have at a community event, there is a good chance that a wetland educational resource exists that will fit your needs. Resources come in a variety of formats including written, video, and hands-on demonstrations. Here are just a few resources that can help get you started on your wetland educational journey.
