The Senate passed a dangerous bill on March 26 that would deny the right of Iowans to sue pesticide companies if they get cancer or other illnesses from these products. This legislation prioritizes the profits of multinational corporations over the health and wellbeing of Iowans.

All Iowans should have the right to seek relief from pesticide injury. We live in a state with the second-highest cancer rate in the U.S., and Iowa is one of only two states where cancer rates are increasing, not decreasing. Iowans don't want this legislation. In fact, recent polling of Iowa voters found that 89% of people oppose pesticide immunity legislation, including 87% of Republican respondents.

This effort is being coordinated and bankrolled NOT by everyday Iowans, but by Bayer, a German chemical company that acquired Monsanto in 2018. Bayer — and its front group the "Modern Ag Alliance" — have poured millions of dollars into states like Iowa, where Bayer is pushing legislatures for broad immunity from accountability for harms caused by its products.
