Des Moines has positioned itself as a climate leader with its commitment to reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050. To achieve this goal, the city must continue to push forward with clean energy incentives and opportunities. I am writing to ask the city council to approve a new tax abatement structure for The City of Des Moines. This proposed change would only allow new buildings that are all-electric to qualify for the full benefits of the incentive. This move would help the city meet its goal of transitioning away from fossil fuel dependency and help ensure that its newly constructed buildings support its net-zero greenhouse gas emission target. One of the first steps towards achieving this goal is to pass a new abatement proposal that includes an all-electric incentive for new buildings. I ask you to pass a new abatement proposal that includes an all-electric incentive for new buildings as one of the first steps taken towards ensuring Des Moines meets its clean energy and climate goals.
