Join IEC on Wednesday, June 16 at 11:30 AM for the first in a three-part series looking at excess coal generation here in Iowa.

Iowa’s progress in developing renewable energy over the past twenty years has allowed for a significant reduction in emissions in the electric generation or power sector. In 2020, Iowa began generating more than 60% of its electricity from wind. However, promises of 100% renewable energy ring hollow when fossil-fired generation continues to operate. All the Iowa coal generation in 2020 was excess generation and not needed. This generation negatively affects Iowan’s health and economy. It is time for MidAmerican Energy and Alliant Energy to be accountable to their customers.
